Enterprise JavaBeans (EJB) is a state-of-the-art architecture for developing, deploying, and managing reliable enterprise applications in production environments. This chapter illustrates the benefits of using the EJB architecture for enterprise applications.
This chapter discusses the evolution of enterprise application architectures. Such architectures inevitably must evolve because the underlying computer support and delivery systems have changed enormously and will continue to change in the future. With the growth of the Web and the Internet, more and more enterprise applications, including intranet and extranet applications, are now Web based. Together, the Java™ 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EE™) and the EJB architectures provide superior support for Web-based enterprise applications.
